Our Favorite Weekend Haunt

The craft market just outside of the city centre. Local crafts and some of the best shaslik in town. Vendors from Old Arbat come here on Wednesday to buy in bulk for resale in the city centre.
Singing ladies at the craft market.

Ron and I returned on Friday from a short break to Dubai for some sun and relaxation to discover our first email from an adoptive couple since Rob and Dede left. We were thrilled to hear that Mark and Sinzina would be arriving on Saturday and up for a trip to the market. Fortunately their apartment was close to ours and shortly after they arrived we were on the metro and headed out to Izmaylovo craft market. Mark and Sinzina did a great job describing the market on their blog, and about the only thing they did not get to experience was the shaslik which is reason enough for a trip out there. We have been known to arrive on the Delta flight and head straight to the market for lunch. At any rate, it was a pleasure to meet another adoptive couple and we hope to hear from others in the future!

Hi Dinia!! Thanks so much for the comment on our blog! Isn't Sinziana such a sweetie?? :-) We are *hoping* to be in Moscow March 22nd (oh please, please, please let it be true!!). Once I know for sure, I will definitely let you know. I'm hoping on our second or third trip we'll have time to venture to the craft market too! It sounds so wonderful. What is a shaslik? I'm horribly unadventurous when it comes to food. :-) I can't wait to read more on your blog! I have a friend (http://journeywiththewilliamsfamily.blogspot.com) that just arrived in Moscow today and is leaving tomorrow morning for Izhevsk. Check out their blog. They are meeting their little boy this week! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

We are expecting to be traveling to Russia soon and would LOVE to have someone "in the know" show us around. The 1st trip (maybe April?) will be just me and DH. But we'll have our entire clan -- plus a few extra -- on the 2nd trip. Not sure of our region yet, but I know we'll be in Moscow at some point. We'll keep in touch via your blog! Is it okay to link your site to ours?

Thanks, Kim
